I got to spend 3 days volunteering at the beautiful house with their incredible staff!
Ronald McDonald House Basel is one of 6 houses part of Ronald McDonald Haus Kinderstiftung Schweiz. It opened in November 2010 and is just a few minutes walk away from the University Children’s Hospital of Basel (UKBB). It has 7 double rooms and 2 single rooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a TV and playroom and a beautiful garden with a terrace that has palm trees!
FUN FACT: They put delicious swiss chocolate in the rooms to welcome the new families. They also have adorable bunnies for the children to hold and hug during their stay there. They also have an incredible partnership with Schweizer Tafel to help reduce food waste and gather donations of foods such as breads, fruits and vegetables for families to use!
My visit to Ronald McDonald House Portland, Maine!
My dad and I were able to prepare 4 pizzas for the families at the house using their incredible kitchen. We also got a full house tour from the wonderful staff!
The Portland House opened on May 26, 1995. The house currently offers 36 guest rooms and is less than half a mile away from the Maine Medical center. There is an incredible fully equipped chicken where volunteers serve prepared meals to the families! The house has a living room where families can relax and spend time with family. They have a playroom with toys and books for children. They have an incredible garden with picnic tables and benches. They have 24/7 staff who are all so welcoming!
FUN FACT: They run a Tab Top Program where they collect aluminum pull tabs from cans (pop, soup) and convert into cash which help support the house operations. Since 2003, they have raised over $30,000!
My visit to Ronald McDonald House in Amsterdam, Netherlands!
I was able to deliver 5 dominos pizzas for the families and a full tour of their incredible house!
The Ronald McDonald Huis Emma Amsterdam opened by Princess Margriet on March 6, 1985 making it the very first Ronald McDonald House in Europe, part of the Ronald McDonald House Kinderfonds charity of the Netherlands!, It iis a beautiful 3 story building with a 5 minute walking distance from the Emma Children’s Hospital. It provides 30 private guest rooms with an en-suite bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen with meals prepared by volunteers, shared living rooms, play rooms and laundry facilities!
FUN FACT: It has a full size tree right in the lobby of the house and has their own mascott, a teddy bunny with long ears and arms to greet the families when they arrive!
Pizza Night at the Ronald McDonald House Family Room in Moncton, New Brunswick!
I was able to deliver some fresh Domino’s Pizzas, toys and stuffed animals to the family room and get a tour by their wonderful family room associate, Madison! Madison gave me the good news that the pizzas were all gone that night!
The Moncton RMH family room opened in June 2011 on the 2nd floor of the Moncton Hospital. It is one of 16 family rooms across Canada! It provides a calm and supportive space for families to relax, refresh and recharge while their child is in the hospital. The family room includes a fully equipped kitchen, a play area with toys & crafts and a lounge with a TV and video game consoles! They have homemade meals and baked goods several times a week under their “Home for Dinner” program.
FUN FACT: The Family Room has the coolest interactive screen full of games such as tic tac toe, puzzles, and checkers!
Pizza Night at Ronald McDonald House in Montreal, Quebec!
My mom and I were able to prepare three homemade pizzas using their incredible kitchen for the families and get a tour from their wonderful staff!
The Ronald McDonald House Montreal opened in 1982 for families with sick children receiving treatment at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. It currently has 50 guest rooms with a bathroom, 2 full equipped kitchens with continental breakfast and 4 meals provided a week. It has an indoor and outdoor playground for children, a library full of books and a HUGE dining area!
FUN FACT: The Montreal house also has a family room located directly inside the Ste-Justine Hospital for families with children in the Day Care Unit. It has a kitchen and a comfortable lounge with crafts and toys!
